“Alumni Night”, a coveted event in Chetana’s calendar, is a time when all Chetanites, who were once our dear students and now remarkable leaders in the corporate world, reunite with us.... and we celebrate their homecoming.

Held on Saturday the 29th of January 2011, this festive gathering was resplendent with a great ambience, graced by the presence of Managing Committee members:

• Shri. Shridatta Suresh Haldankar
• Shri. Shirish Madhukarrao Chaudhari
• Shri. Govind Bhonu Kawale
• Adv. Sanghraj Damodar Rupwate
• Dr. Ashok Ramdas Chaudhari
• Shri. Nitin Pralhad Mahajan

and Of Course the stars of the evening – the Alumni themselves!

The function started with a homage to our late founder president Shri Madhukarrao Chaudhari and a warm welcome to all the alumni. This was followed by an enchanting dance performance by the students, set on a medley of retro bollywood numbers and presented in a very new and interesting form.

The evening unfolded with a dazzling fashion show – “Rashee Nite” based on the theme of zodiac signs, where our very own Chetana models set the ramp on fire with their poise, elegance and style.

Then came the most intense moment of the event - the felicitation time:

In the memory of our late founder President Shri. Madhukarrao Chaudhari, a video film featuring his contribution and dedication to the development of the state of Maharashtra, was aired. The great visionary devoted his life to several humanitarian causes and development programs. His selfless efforts towards promoting education, conceptualising and founding the “Balbharati” and landmarks such as Goregaon Film city and M.M.R.D.A have enriched the lives of millions. His role in the progress of Jalgaon district is unforgettable. It is to his credit that Chetana has been instrumental in nurturing talented students and creating thousands of success stories. We paid a heartfelt tribute to our beloved Founder by observing a moment of silence and lighting candles in his memory. We salute him for his extraordinary spirit and splendid body of work.

Every year, it is our glorious tradition to honour the batch completing its silver jubilee. This year, it was the ’83 – ’85 batch.... Amidst fond memories, fanfare and a cake cutting ceremony they celebrated 25 years of being associated with Chetana and being part of its illustrious family.

We expressed our deep gratitude to two of our Alumni Mr. V. Sukumar and Mr. Nitin Mahajan (Trustee Member) for their magnanimous gesture of setting up scholarships for meritorious chetanites by making donations of  Rs.1 lakh (in the name of  V. S. Chettiar Foundation) and Rs.5 lakh (in the memory of Late Shri. P. L. Mahajan) respectively. Their thoughtful act will help us in motivating students to strive further for academic excellence.

There is a special place in our hearts for those Corporate Alumni who have taken time out of their busy schedule to stay connected with their Alma Mater and shared their invaluable Industry experiences with current students. These distinguished guests were presented with a small token of our appreciation for their admirable efforts.

The highlight of the evening was the felicitation of some esteemed alumni who are on their second innings with the Institute as faculties. We acknowledged their involvement and service by honouring them on stage and will continue to do so in our hearts...

Ms. Madhumita Patil, CEO - CRKIMR & CIMR, was invited by the students to join them on the ramp, which she did in her true sporting style. “It’s always a pleasure to meet our dear Alumni friends..... but I am feeling simply thrilled tonight to be surrounded by such abundance of love and affection which they have showered on the Institute. I am eagerly awaiting that “Alumni Night” when there will be more alumni on stage receiving honour than in the audience”, she said delightfully.

The evening continued with a special feature; Shri. Shirish Chaudhari, Hon. Secretary Chetana Trust, inaugurated a web page added newly on the Chetana website, highlighting the achievements of the alumni. Addressing all those present with a reassuring speech he promised to continue the great legacy left behind by our founder president and following in his footsteps, taking Chetana to newer heights.

We felt this was an opportune time to enlighten our alumni about Chetana’s foray into Social Responsibility with two initiatives; “School = Lunch” (partnering with Iskon) and “Jagruti” (spreading the message of Gandhian philosophy by promoting his autobiography “The Story Of My Experiments With Truth”). These initiatives were well received by the audience with great applause and cheer.

The event saw a staggering number of over 600 alumni coming together on this joyous occasion. The night ended on a high note with the directors of both Institutes, Dr. M. V. Deshpande (Director - CIMR) and Dr. Firdos T. Shroff (Director - CRKIMR) proposing a sincere vote of thanks and the alumni expressing undying support and solidarity to their Alma Mater.
